Stafford EC/RO Monthly Report for 04-2008

EC/RO Comments:

*Bart, N3GQ, EC/RO, Stafford County:   We welcome Andy Miles, KJ4CCU as our new Stafford Assistant EC/RO for EOC Operations.

EC/RO Bart, N3GQ managed 4 Saturday VE exam sessions and brought in 7 newcomers to our magic world of Amateur Radio.

Bart, N3GQ has been relaxing on his hammock strung under his dipole antenna with his glass of iced tea and QST as Tom KI4AFE toils away at the DEC-4 duties.  Did I forget to mention how much work is involved?  Just kidding!

Stafford County has been looking for ways to cut its budget, so now is not a good time to ask for that 200-foot tower. We are, however, waiting to get some hardware to put up our vertical antennas atop the new Public Service Building.

Bart’s XYL Dee, K3KAT has been out of work for 2 months now (LWOP) and is hoping to soon receive an operation to remove the tumor finally found in her left kidney.

The first Marine Corps Half Marathon is coming up on 18 May in Fredericksburg – they need many more ham radio volunteers!

Tomorrow, and for the next week, the National Level Exercise called 2-08 will be taking up many a federal employee’s time.

Another year of missing the Dayton Hamvention – boo hoo hoo!

We welcome the new Virginia ARES administration – we all wish them well and big success!  We are looking forward to working with the new system of assigning districts to A-SECs to see if it can improve efficiency.

The Stafford Area Radio Association (SARA) has a new web site format.  The new EmComm page is located at http://www.ww4va.org/EmCommInformation/tabid/56/Default.aspx -- take a look!

FB & 73, Bart, N3GQ

ARRL Numbered RADIOGRAMS

“Numbered messages have been established for some of the more common texts sent during emergencies and holiday seasons. When this common text can be used, an ARL NUMBER is substituted for the text and sent. The delivering station reads the actual text to the address, not the ARL NUMBER.

“The letters ARL are inserted in the preamble in the check and in the text before spelled out numbers, which represent texts from this list. Note that some ARL texts include and in the text before spelled out numbers, which represent texts from this list. Note that some ARL texts include insertion of numerals or words.” Please click on the link for more information: http://www.ncarrl.org/nets/number_mesg.html
